Legal notice (Impressum)

This website presents OpenOHL, a free, open-source software project. Nothing is sold on this website, and it does not collect orders, payments or accounts.

Privacy policy (Datenschutzerklärung)

This policy explains how personal data is handled when you visit this website. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP/nDSG) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Controller

The person or organisation named in the legal notice is responsible for this website. For any data protection question or request, write to the e-mail address given there.

What this website does not do

Two small features run only inside your browser and send nothing anywhere: the “Get OpenOHL” section suggests your operating system from what your browser reports, and the Copy buttons put text on your clipboard when you click them. The documentation search runs entirely in your browser.

Server logs at the hosting provider

When you open a page, your browser necessarily sends technical data to the server delivering it: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser’s user agent. The hosting provider may record this in server logs to deliver the website and to keep it secure and available (legitimate interest; GDPR Art. 6(1)(f) where it applies). We do not combine these logs with other data or use them to identify visitors.

This website is hosted by [hosting provider, its address, and a link to its privacy policy]. [If the provider processes data outside Switzerland, name the country and the safeguard, e.g. “in the United States, under the Swiss–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses”.] Logs are kept for as long as the provider’s policy says, [e.g. at most N days].

Links to other websites

Links to other websites (for example the source code repository, the licence text or the Rust installer) take you to services we do not control. Their own privacy policies apply once you follow such a link.

Your rights

Under the FADP you may ask what personal data about you is processed (right of access), and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or for its processing to be restricted or stopped. Where the GDPR applies, you also have the rights to data portability and to object. Write to the address in the legal notice. You may also contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC/EDÖB), or a data protection authority in your country of residence in the EU or EEA.

Changes

This policy may be updated when the website changes; the date at the top of this page shows the current version.

Disclaimer

Engineering software

OpenOHL, including OHL-Design and OHL-Structure, is pre-alpha software under active development. Its results, including sag and tension, clearances, loads, structure analyses and checks, exports and drawings, may be incomplete or wrong. They are not a substitute for professional engineering judgement. Every result must be checked independently by a qualified engineer before it is used for design, construction, operation or any safety-relevant decision. Meeting laws, ordinances (such as the Swiss LeV/OLEI), standards and the requirements of authorities and grid operators remains the responsibility of the user.

No warranty

The software is provided free of charge under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, on an “as is” basis without warranty of any kind (sections 6 and 7 of the licence). To the extent permitted by applicable law, liability for any damage arising from the use of the software, of this website or of its content is excluded. This does not limit liability that cannot be excluded by law, in particular for unlawful intent or gross negligence.

Content of this website

The content of this website is prepared with care, but no guarantee is given that it is complete, correct or up to date. Figures quoted (for example frame times and counts of validation cases) come from the project’s own repository and benchmarks on development hardware; they are indicative and depend on the computer and the data. Features marked as coming or planned are not available yet, and plans may change.

External links

We are not responsible for the content of external websites linked from here. We checked them when the links were added and found no unlawful content; if you notice a problem, tell us and we will remove the link.

Trademarks and licences

Independence

OpenOHL is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or derived from any commercial line-design or structural software, its vendors, or any standards body. OpenOHL is developed clean-room, without copying commercial software or standards text.

Names of others

Names of products, companies and standards are used only to identify them (for example to describe a file format OpenOHL can read or write, or a design code whose method a plugin implements); they are trademarks or names of their respective owners. macOS is a trademark of Apple Inc. Windows is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation. Linux® is the registered trademark of Linus Torvalds. Rust is a trademark of the Rust Foundation. NESC, IEC, EN/CENELEC, CSA, ASCE and GO 95 are names of their publishers’ standards. OpenOHL ships no content of these standards: its design-code plugins implement a code’s method and read every value from the user’s own copy, and none is certified or endorsed by the publisher.

Copyright

Website text, illustrations and screenshots © 2026 [name of the rights holder]. The screenshots show the synthetic example line of the project, with invented coordinates and data. OpenOHL itself is licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0; the documentation pages are generated from the project’s manual under the same terms.

Accessibility

We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. Its pages use semantic structure and landmarks, can be used with the keyboard alone (including the menus, tabs, the configurator and the documentation search), respect your system’s light or dark setting and its “reduce motion” setting, give text alternatives for images, and keep text contrast at AA level. They were checked with the automated tool axe-core and by hand on 11 October 2026, and with axe-core again after the changes of 18 October 2026.

Known limitations: screenshots of the 3D views show complex scenes that the alternative text can only summarise; mathematical formulas in the documentation are rendered with KaTeX, which includes MathML for screen readers.

If something on this website is hard to use for you, write to the address in the legal notice; we will try to fix it or give you the content in another form.
